Keymap problems

Thanks to Daniel and Jens, I'm getting closer :-)  I did symlink 
/opt/xorg/lib/X11/xkb to /opt/xorg/share/X11/xkb

I'm still getting the warning about falling back to the pre-XKB keymap.  
I can use the control key for various window manager keybindings, at the 
shell, in vim, but control-alt-delete doesn't work, and neither does any 
VT switching from within X.
