Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately, the screen got no signal again. I
wish I had a CRT screen I could test with. It would at least show some
garbage in the screen when misconfigured. This TFT just shows black screen.

The 32 bit mode would not start. Xorg reported following:

(EE) I810(1): Given depth (32) is not supported by I830 driver

I tried also 16 bit mode but the screen displayed again the message "No
signal".
I noticed that there was no mouse cursor in the embedded lcd screen of
the laptop, strange.
The log files for both tests are at http://www.iki.fi/tol/xorg16.log.txt
and http://www.iki.fi/tol/xorg32.log.txt

Another problem showed up which may interest Xorg's developers. After
restarting Xorg couple of times (two or three) it refused to start again
and dumped a stack trace:

0: /usr/bin/X11/X(xf86SigHandler+0x84) [0x80c4354]
1: [0xb7f5d420]
2: /usr/bin/X11/X(InitOutput+0x9e4) [0x80a0514]
3: /usr/bin/X11/X(main+0x276) [0x806e486]
4: /lib/tls/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xc8) [0xb7d5dea8]
5: /usr/bin/X11/X(FontFileCompleteXLFD+0xa9) [0x806d9d1]

with a message:

(EE) I810(0): unknown reason for exception

The log file of this startup is at http://www.iki.fi/tol/xorg.error.txt

I posted also a message to 915resolution's discussion group at
http://groups.google.com/group/915resolution where Stian Skjelstad
wondered if the modeline was faulty or if VBIOS sets an invalid clock
settings. I do not know how to check those issues, though.

I have spent the whole day trying to get this screen working but so far
it has refused to cooperate. The git repository of Intel's drivers is
still down so I cannot try to play with them. If you come up with any
other suggestions, I am eager to try. :)
