For any one else interested, I've just tried Ubuntu 7.04 alpha 4, and the
problem has gone. /proc/mtrr now shows:
reg00: base=0x00000000 ( 0MB), size= 512MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0xf0000000 (3840MB), size= 8MB: write-combining, count=1
reg02: base=0xf6000000 (3936MB), size= 16MB: write-combining, count=1
reg03: base=0xf4000000 (3904MB), size= 32MB: write-combining, count=1
reg04: base=0xf2000000 (3872MB), size= 32MB: write-combining, count=1
reg05: base=0xf8000000 (3968MB), size= 64MB: write-combining, count=1
(xorg.log still contains no reference to mtrrs, but xine-check no longer
complains).
