965GM + Latitude D830 = Fuzzy

I have a Dell Latitude D830 which has a 965GM chipset. Although the
display is running at its native resolution of 1920x1200, its fuzzy.
Its not a hardware issue, because if I boot to Windows XP, it looks
fine. I've also verified that the things I'm looking at indeed should
have crisp borders. Does anybody have any ideas?
(I'm using the latest version of the driver packaged with Ubuntu. While
I suspect that a setting can fix my problem, I'm also trying to build
the latest git version, without much success:
