How do I debug this?

I have installed the new intel video driver, xserver, and xrandr based
on http://burtonini.com/blog/computers/randr-2007-02-06-17-50 using
this in my apt sources:
deb http://burtonini.com/debian/ feisty/

I'm not sure what exact versions of what I have.  But I cannot see any
video of any kind.  when I play a theora, or mpeg4, or anything
else... I hear the audio, but the video is blank.

How do I debug this?  I know nothing about the Linux GUI/display
stack.  I'm a Linux server guy.  I'm willing to build from  git
source, but I don't know what to build.

Please advise.
