I'm a bit of a git aficionado, and you CAN get source for a certain date.

git log --since="Sept 19" --until="Sept 21"

It's a little fuzzy because one's definition of "Sept 20" can depend
on timezone, etc...

Thanks for the help, I'm going to try out the compile tonight...
