Is it normal to see DRI disabled when starting a second X-session?

I need to know if it is a currently normal behaviour that X is unable to use 
DRI/DRM for a second local second session. 

The context of this question is, that all recent xf86-video-intel drivers 
(beginning with xf86-video-i810-2.2.99.902 until current git master) crash 
the system if I try to switch back to the original session. I already know 
the reason, but it's somwhat hairy to fix, and it's also a late consequence 
of X beeing unable to initialize DRI for the second login.
