Have you installed all the updates for Mandriva 2008.0? It's quite a 
long time since I looked at that distro as it's still over a year old 
(2009.0 has been out for some months and is well worth the upgrade!)

I think I remember fixing a similar bug (well "packaging" the fix for, 
not actually "fixing"!), but I can't remember the details off hand.

If you cannot get it to work, there should be a x11-driver-video-i810 
package what you can install and you can replace the "intel" line with 
"i810" in your xorg.conf. This is an older version of the driver but it 
should work fine for you.
