There's the rub. I did all the updates I thought were appropriate with the 2008 upgrade. However, without X11, I don't know how to check from command line. I tried to run the upgrade for 2009 but it said it would not upgrade and I needed a clean install. With all the problems I have trying to reconstitute my server, that is the last thing I want to do. I'm hoping, if I get enough 2008 updates applied, it will let me do the upgrade. Otherwise I have to stay with 2008. I simply don't have the time to rebuild all my services. Last time I did that (10.1 to 2007) it took 3 weeks to get a working server again and many messages to various forums.

That doesn't work either. Here is the 'startx' output using 'i810':

xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.13648

Interestingly the X client does not crash as it used to. However, it is obvious from the output above that something is still wrong. How did this get so screwed up since it was working before the 2007 spring update?
