Problems with Asus EeePC 701 4G and Asus VW222S

Dear developers,
I am the owner of an ASUS EeePC 701 4G and am not able to get the ASUS
VW222S [2] as an external display going at a resolution of 1680 * 1050
over VGA, which is the only port available.
I am just seeing moving stripes on the display (image attached).
The thing is that a lot of people can get this this resolution to work
(with different monitor?) [3][4] with this modification [5] to
xorg.conf.
I am hoping you can give me a hint how to proceed. It looks like the
monitor is the culprit!?
Some people helped me to get some information together for comparison
[6].
There was no difference in the result between the versions in Debian
unstable and experimental.
unstable:
(II) Module intel: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.4.2, module version = 2.3.2
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 2.0
experimental:
(II) Module intel: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.4.99.906, module version = 2.4.1
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 4.1
I attached my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Paul
