[Clipart] [Open Clip Art Library] clker.com - part 3

Hello,

Not only are there ads all over the place - thank you
Greasemonkey for blocking them -, but when I read the
OCAL FAQ, I can read this under the question "Why does
the Open Clip Art Library require artwork be covered
as 'Public Domain'? What about GPL/LGPL/other?"

--- Excerpt ---
Even though users are not required to provide
attribution, Open Clip Art Library strives to keep
track of the submitter information. There are several
reasons for this:

   1. First, we want to ensure that there is a place
where the author's name is displayed, so they get
credit for their work and can be contacted in case of
questions.
   2. Second, we feel it is more legally clear if
there is traceability of the authorship back to the
artist, so any questions of legality can go to them.
   3. And third, we want to ensure a way that fans of
an artist's work can find other art they have
contributed.

---

Obviously, clker fails on all of the above - having
the author name in the SVG source is not enough. For
example, I stripped out from the document properties
the standard Inkscape mentions, but my work can be
found (and is displayed) under my username on OCAL.
OCAL is not even mentioned or linked to on clker, as
said earlier.
As an occasional contributor to OCAL, I reckon that
there is no way to track back to the author of the
artwork.

Besides, GPL is only meaningful in some countries,
etc.

OCAL is a *library*, pretty much like the Project
Gutenberg is one. Both make works available under the
Public Domain (under U.S. law). I think it would be
interesting to read :

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:The_Project_Gutenberg_License

and get inspired by it for OCAL.

(It's stated there things about using "individual
projects". For protecting the global "Project
Gutenberg" project, there are "trademark" and also:
--
1.C. The Project Gutenberg Literary Archive
Foundation ("the Foundation"
or PGLAF), owns a compilation copyright in the
collection of Project
Gutenberg-tm electronic works.
--

Anyway... I'm by no mean an Intellectual Property
specialist, but from my small point of view, a site
like clker fails at fulfilling all of the spirit of
the Public Domain and "draw together" concepts, and I
call it a mere pirate.

The fact that some enhancements are made to the site
navigation doesn't change that.

N.B.:
And also, the infamous urchin.js script is there to
track my clicks...
