the email you replied to was addressed to Jon, who is not a "passing
by user".
and indeed http://www.openicon.org is not ready for "passing by users".
it would be great if ff and safari developers implemented the spec.
your comments to the bugs would help:

kind of chicken and egg, if it's not used they won't implement it...
