Xgl and the event pump

You should be able to move the event pump code up out of egl and into
xgl to get better testing. It uses kdrive code and the kernel evdev
interface. You can open the evdev interfaces even when the other
mouse/keyboard interfaces are open. Xgl could then supply the event
pump for Xglx and ignore the Xnest one.
The evdev driver that is current in egl is pretty primitive. I see now
that there is a full one for X. I haven't gotten around to moving the
code from the X evdev driver into Xegl.
