TBH I don't quite understand the problem here -- the m-p-i rules tag
both the block device as well as the raw USB device with
ID_MEDIA_PLAYER, to make it easy to access it as either a storage
device or in raw mode with userspace drivers (such as libmtp). So why
do you need to walk/map anything?
