Wow, everything is abstract.  That's a better design than i was imagining!

My opinion - don't worry about writing super-efficient cache
implementations.  It is more urgent to make the mpeg stuff use
the cache for unit translation.  i can work on a cache implementation.

Yah obviously, but your stuff is still too incomplete to use.
