Hi Nigel,
You probably also want to use the Fluendo MPEG demuxer available here:
http://core.fluendo.com/gstreamer/src/gst-fluendo-mpegdemux/

I don't think the ffdemux_mpegts has been tested/used much in GStreamer
so there might be some wrapping issues etc.
