Starting time of a given source

Hi all,

I am looking for a mechanism or an API that will allow me to read the start time of the recording based on the relevant source. For example the start time of a file might be the modification time on that file, while the start time on a live source might be the machine time when the recording started.

I can get the duration of the stream so far using BUFFER_PTS(), it is the absolute start time that I am after.

Does something exist like this in gstreamer?
