That did the trick.

I just changed the policy for any ieee1394 devices and that seemed to  
do the trick, it no longer mounts on the desktop - but instead lets  
autofs take care of everything.

Now I need to see if there is a way to make it just apply for iPod  
devices, hopefully I can figure that out from the documentation.
