Sorry for the delay getting back. Hey, you're a star! At least loading
fbcon got my screen working again. When trying to turn off frame
buffers as per Gordon's first request I searched out 'FB' but
simplistically didn't think to search out 'FRAMEBUFFER'.

Back to X. If I tried to start X with fbcon loaded then it told me I
cannot run it in frame buffer mode, and I don't really want to be in
frame buffer mode anyway, do I? It seems slow. However if I disable
console frame buffer support in the kernel then the boot starts with a
more standard VGA console but when udev takes over the screen goes
black again.

I've been playing with built-in vs module on many of the Intel driver
items but cannot find the right combination yet.

I do see messages about MTTR failing. See dmesg attached. Most
everything is modular.

With fbcon disabled in the kernel the console still goes black so it
must be something else having to with frame buffer support that I've
not turned off yet? However I think we're making headway because drm
is clearly finding reasonable resolutions for the two monitors that
are hooked up.

Let me know what else I can try as well as any more files you want me
to send. If it's preferable to build everything into the kernel then
I'd like to know which Intel drivers to build because it seems like
sometimes it's looking for the i915 and other times for the i810. I'm
not clear why. On the other hand if I can do everything modular and
choose which ones to load in the module autoload file that would be
faster to test.
