OK - a little more info. I've got everything set up modular and (I
think) all or most of the frame buffer shut off. I load nothing
automatically. The action that causes my screen to go black is just
the modprobe of i915. modprobe i810 doesn't cause that problem.
I cannot run startx (unless I do it blind) with the i915 loaded. With
the i810 loaded I can run startx, the screen goes black and lsmod says
the i915 got loaded so it all appears to be one issue.
Below is Xorg.0.log, lsmod a couple of times and dmesg after loading the i915.
