[Libdlo] Libdlo Digest, Vol 8, Issue 18

Hey Jason:

Well, I had to go through some major hoops to get ANYTHING on my
DisplayLink, so you're in the right camp here. Plus, in my case, I'm doing
this on Karmic -- and Jaunty is better-suited to run the associated drivers.

Make sure that you have the mod -- which is really an updated .ko (kernel
object) driver. Grab it from
http://projects.unbit.it/downloads/displaylink-mod-0.3.tar.gz There are a
couple of things that you must do with the contents of its folder.

First, assuming that you know how to unzip .tar files (and you must if you
already got the older drivers unzipped) then you need to copy the drm_edid.h
file and put it into the SAME FOLDER on your system where the older edid
file is. (Do a search on File System, and put the updated drm file into the
same folder. Don't be afraid to overwrite it -- you'll have to for the
DisplayLink Mod to build.)

Second, once you do make, sudo make install, and sudo depmod -a, create a
folder called displaylink, and put it HERE:

lib/modules/(number of your particular distro)/kernel/drivers

and put the displaylink.ko file THERE.

All other instructions at the MulchMan blog are correct for Jaunty.

I hope that this is informative enough. As usual, I'm operating on about 85%
of the amount of sleep that I need, so if I left anything out, I'll try to
get it next time around.

Good luck!

James "Sammy James" Middleton
