This is a good question, which I have been thinking about as well.
Personally I'd like to focus on the "Meeting" aspect. I believe, that
the (core) LGM should not be a "trade show" or a promotion tour for free
software graphics related tool. The primary motivation for me to attend
LGM is to meet artists using "our" tools as well as fellow developers
from our communities.
The goal IMO should be to foster the communication between the
developers as well as between developers and users. It is not a one-way
event where we educate others about what tools they're supposed to be
using.
Of course LGM should be as open as possible for people who are not
familiar with FOSS-Tools. So, a beginners workshop or similiar things
are perfectly fine with me. But I don't want to have to run around and
tell people about the greatness of GIMP.
And I also want to approach and invite new communities with possibly
strange and wonderful approaches to using tools. I don't think that this
could happen if we perceive LGM as a "promotion event".
Bye,
Simon
