I do have a workaround.

I basically add everything from

mesa/src/mesa/drivers/osmesa/Makefile

into

mesa/src/mesa/drivers/x11/Makefile

and tell VTK to use libGL.so for GL and OSMesa.

But for now I'm submitting VTK dashboard builds for :

GL (xlib) only

OSMesa only

and

GL (xlib) plus mangled OSMesa

to see if any fruit falls from the tree.
