Basically, everything boils down to the following steps:
- configure the yum 'epia' repo, I assume you've already done that.
- yum update xorg-x11-drv-via
- yum install kernel-module-via-drm-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5 (I've only made a
package for this kernel and only for i686 arch). It will spit some
errors currently, but are harmless in this case, I'll tackle that later.
- add 'modprobe via' to your rc.local in order to have the drm modules
loaded before X start. This is only a workaround, but is still needed at
the moment.
This'll give you at least a working 2D driver as well as hardware MPEG
decoding support.
Additionaly, downgrading mesa to 6.2 might be needed, as there has been
report of mesa 6.4.2 (which comes with FC5) not working properly for
unichrome. Not sure about that, nor how to do it cleanly. I'm not using
OpenGL. Keep this as a last chance solution.
I'm adding back the mailing list to the recipients, please keep it cc'ed.
Regards,
Xavier
