Hi,

I have realised that I need the openchrome driver due to the xvmc support,
but really don't know what driver i currently have. I use Ubuntu Dapper and
Xorg.log shows this:

--- Xorg.log ---

(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/via_drv.so
(II) Module via: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 4.3.99.902, module version = 0.1.33
        Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
...
(--) VIA(0): mapping framebuffer @ 0xe0000000 with size 0x4000000
(--) VIA(0): Frame buffer start: 0xb391c000, free start: 0x300000 end:
0x4000000
(--) VIA(0): mapping MMIO @ 0xe8000000 with size 0x9000
(--) VIA(0): mapping BitBlt MMIO @ 0xe8200000 with size 0x10000
(II) VIA(0): vgaHWGetIOBase: hwp->IOBase is 0x03d0, hwp->PIOOffset is 0x0000
(II) VIA(0): Caught X working around an old VGA limitation (VBlankStart).
(II) VIA(0): 3D Engine has been initialized.
.....

--- End Xorg.log ---

My guess would be that I'm either using Via's own released driver or the
openchrome since Xvmc is loaded and actually seems to work in MythTV. I am
wondering however if you think a newer version (if it exists at all) of the
driver could solve my "problems" with TV-out. TV-out does work but really
doesn't fill the whole screen, mostly leaves black stripes to left/right but
also some top/down. I have tried some different "Modes" under "Display", but
none is perfect. I am using PAL, btw, and the Mode "720x576Noscale" makes
the screen go crazy when in 24 bit mode, but works quite nice in 16 bit
mode, but I am concerned about picture quality (even though I can't see a
difference :). This is my relevant Xorg.conf if someone is kind enough to
help:

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device "VideocardViaTv"
        Monitor "MonitorTv"
        DefaultDepth 24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport 0 0
                Depth 24
# Modes "800x600"
# Modes "640x480"
                Modes "1024x768"
# Modes "720x576"
# Modes "720x576Over"
# Modes "720x576Noscale"
        EndSubSection
# SubSection "Display"
# Depth 16
# Modes "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768"
"800x600" "640x480"
# Modes "720x576"
# Modes "720x576Noscale"
# EndSubSection
EndSection

Yes, I am currently using "1024x768" since the picture is centered in
contrast to "720x576". I don't know the difference though except for that as
it seems to take up equal amount of space on the TV (scaled?) which kind of
surprised me. Perhaps it more or less only slows down the computer?

This is a bit more maybe of relevance:
Section "Device"
        Identifier "VideocardViaTv"
        Driver "via"

        Option "TVOutput" "S-Video"
        Option "TVDeflicker" "1"
        Option "TVDotCrawl" "false"
        Option "EnableAGPDMA" "true"
EndSection
...
# I have more or less no idea where the HorizSync/VertRefresh values come
from, and the ModeLines are more or less a mystery :)
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "MonitorTv"

        ModeLine "720x576" 32.7 720 744 816 912 576 577 580 597
        ModeLine "848x480" 31.5 848 864 952 1056 480 481 484 497
        ModeLine "856x480" 31.7 856 872 960 1064 480 481 484 497

EndSection

I seem to need TVDeflicker in some modes so it's on mostly.
I'm almost there. Could a new driver solve my problems? Does anyone have
some advice?

Best Regards,
