I've experienced a similar problem with MPlayer, but the problem
disappears when I disable sound (using -nosound). Suspecting a problem
with alsa, I upgraded my system from Fedora Core 4 (kernel-2.6.17) to
Fedora 7 (kernel-2.6.22), and the jerkiness disappeared.
Perhaps this information can be of help to you when troubleshooting the
problem.
