 Many thanks.  I'll give that a try later today.

 Correct - the LVDS board is a plug in (from VIA) to a dedicated slot.  It
 has a curious variation - there is an 18bit and 24bit version that must
 match the LCD Panel interface used.  I initially received the 24bit but
 then had to get the alternate version to match my panel.  None of the
 distributers had a clue what I was on about.  VIA were very tight lipped
 about any technical detail.

 I'll check the LVDS board for chip numbers if that would be of any value
 to you.

 Yes I have tried *many* option variations - it is quite possible I have
 some remnants that should not fit together.  I'll take your advice and
 revert to the simplest form when I get the later driver installed.  (I'm
 at work right now and away from the devel stystem).
