Hello Scott,
I´m not a developer, so please excuse, if I´m not using the correct terms...
concerning rendering to the display, there are very much similarities
between layout / graphic design applications and DAM solutions. So I
would suggest to look at Scribus and Inkscape, if its possible to share
libraries / modules for rendering to the monitor.
But compared to Mac OSX, such functionality should better be provided on
a level like e.g. Gnome / KDE / GTK..
If You plan a version targeting really the high-end market with a basic
free opensource solution and a high priced commercial version, you could
contact http://www.colorlogic.de. They provide very sophisticated OEM
cross platform colormanagement solutions including high-end CMM, profile
generation, rendering of images and PDF for monitor, print and
colorservers, devicelink-generation and support, etc.
I guess, that in the current state of your DAM solution, they are much
too expensive. But if the project is growing, they may could be a
commercial partner in the future.
Regards
Jan-Peter
