Yup, that's showing such limited details as the video driver that is
driving the virtual monitor doesn't even support xrandr 1.2 which has
been around for years. I'm not sure about VirtualBox, but I know at
least there are binary "guest support" packages for KVM and VMWare
that allow you to have better graphics, which hopefully provides a
better implementation of the graphics hardware.
