I was thinking about using slapt-get as default installer (or writing my one) and packagekit/gnome-packagekit as graphic and administration interface to it. I've tried to build the last packagekit with slapt backend and it fails. The last git update of slapt backend is dated with 07.2012. Is there anyone who is working on slapt support in the packagekit? I would be happy to help if I can.
I wrote the slapt backend, but I am not aware of anyone working on it - like updating it to PackageKit 0.8 or Slackware 14... The last update you mention is where the backend was disabled, until someone actually updates it (as per PORTING.txt). I don't think you should be writing another package manager, so if you report the actual errors someone can probably help you. What is the difference between "dropline GNOME" and "GNOME SlackBuild", BTW ?
