How to test? I don't have xrandr enabled:

$ xrandr --output HDMI2  --set audio off
RandR extension missing

I set outputs in pavucontrol

stereo output works but when I select 5.1 it is silent (not even shows on
the amp that its playing 5.1) let alone 7.1
