Hi Again Alex,

I accidentally sent too soon! I wanted to also touch on your point
about roundtripping errors.

The way I see it we have two options for effects:

-save two raster layers, one with the effect and one without
or
-save one layer, with the effect implementation OR standard implementation
name (like blend mode names) as some attribute

In the first case, the plain raster layer without effects would presumably
always be used as the source before effects were generated on programs
which support rendering effects, and only the 'rendered effect' version
would differ between saves, so I don't see how the long term degradation
would happen.

In the second case, a similar thinking applies. The plain raster layer
without effects would always be preserved in saves, and a program generated
it's own understanding of the effect. Ideally, the implementation should
produce the same effect result, but even if it didn't, because the original
raster layer without effects is always saved, there should be no round trip
errors.

I want to see if we are on the same page here -- could you detail how you
thought the errors would crop up? I could just be missing a big point
somewhere. ;S
